Secrets Challenge!

Hey everyone,
So this song is one of my favorites, and it's one that means a whole bunch to me. If you've never heard it-listen...NOW.

In a way...I think we can all relate to this song.  Maybe not in the same way as Mary Lambert, but in our own.  And that's one thing I love about Mary Lambert...her lyrics aren't just for her.  Most of the time I think she's in my head, saying exactly what I am feeling.  She may be my spirit animal.

My favorite part of this song is the chorus,

"They tell us from the time we're young
To hide the things that we don't like about ourselves
Inside ourselves
I know I'm not the only one who spent so long attempting to be someone else
Well I'm over it".

You know what, Mary Lambert?  I am too.  I'm over it.

I am someone that, personally, struggles with body image and has for a very long time.  And that chorus does radiate truth.  We are told that if there is something that we hate about ourselves...cover it up, at all costs.  "Don't let people see the things that set you apart." My school counselor once told me that... Well screw it. Okay? Screw it.  I say if there is something that you hate or aren't proud of...flaunt it!  Be proud of the person you are.  None of us are perfect (even if it seems like they are)...some of us are just better at hiding.

It's time to step out of the shadows, and let the light shine on all of the things you are ashamed of.  It's never okay to keep things like that bundled up inside.. So, I have an idea.  I challenge everyone that reads this:

You see that comment section below?  Pick something-something that you hate about yourself, something you're ashamed to let anyone see...pick your secrets, and tell us.  Of course, there is an anonymous option if you're not comfortable.
You've officially been challenged.  Don't go through these things alone.  Let us carry that burden with you. This is a 100% judgment free zone, and we are here to listen, support, and help any one of you that needs it.

Listen to the song above, and tell us...what is your secret?

Be strong. Be brave. and Never let anyone dull your sparkle.

What is "Androgyny"?

Androgyny does NOT necessarily make someone a homosexual, so what is it then?

Androgyny is not something that we should see as "wrong" or "gross" or "disturbing", a person who is androgynous is their own individual person, yet, they are NOT the outcast.  An androgynous person is not considered to be bisexual, lesbian, gay, or a hermaphrodite.  Androgyny is simply a state of mind that has a lot to do with style, and hobbies that people find interest in.  They are of a non polarized gender. Androgyny does not really change anything about a person except how they are perceived.

In simple terms,  androgynous people are people who don't display male or female identity, but rather a mixture of both.  They are very gender neutral, and are more than likely genderqueer people, but that is not the case for every androgynous person. It is a type of style, but it is also a mental state of mind.

Androgyny means being brave and ready to stand out in the crowd, androgyny is not something yet that is very familiar with in the world.

Anyway, stay in contact with the blog, and leave questions that you would like to know in the comments below!
